Adding avatars can take simple logos and turn them into so much more. A memorable avatar can take a company logo to the next level by adding personality and giving it more distinct branding recognition.
First of all, if you don’t know what an avatar is, just look below at one we created for our client’s blog Life Over Ice.
According to Wikapedia, an avatar in the computer world is a graphical representation of the user or user’s alter ego or character. It could be three-dimensional in the form of a character or in two-dimension as an icon.
Here are three tips on on ways to use avatars to boost simple logos and boost brand awareness:
- Think about your brand. What is your message and what do you want to project in the marketplace and to your clientele? Think about words to describe you and your business—professional, fun, easy to work with, whimsical, technical, artsy or cutting edge? These are just some examples of words you can give to your graphic designer to help create an avatar that is uniquely you! We always ask our clients that want an avatar to send us a picture of themselves so we can get a good idea of what they look like before we begin.
Be consistent with using your avatar. You don’t necessarily need to use your avatar everywhere, let’s face it, it may just be too big to put on everything. But, with that being said, you will want to use it enough throughout your marketing so that people recognize it is “you”, your brand, your business. For example, Heather, with REstyle Group uses her silhouette on her Facebook Cover Image for impact and a fun look.
- Mix it up occasionally. Don’t think you always have to use the same avatar from your simple logo across all of your marketing. Keep things fresh and even seasonal by swapping out the clothing on your avatar, or what your avatar may be holding. For example, Flaired Affairs often changes the items on her avatar’s platter depending on the event, holiday or party.
