As digital marketing continues to evolve, so should your company’s strategy for the up-coming year. Several notable events took place last year that will impact digital marketing in 2014: Twitter’s IPO announcement, Google and Facebook’s algorithm updates.

In 2013, we saw organizations embracing different tactics for digital marketing in a big way. Here are a couple of the biggest trends we expect to see in 2014.

digital marketing

1. Real Time Marketing
This term has been thrown around frequently. It’s becoming a buzz word. Basically, the expectation is your marketing team needs to stay agile.

Real Time Marketing is using data analytics with a process flow to shift marketing messaging in real time or near real time. This means staying responsive and aware and making changes to reflect what’s happening now.

digital marketing2. Mobile Matters More Than Ever
Forbes reports by 2017, 87% of connected device sales (that includes desktop PCs and laptops) will be smartphones and tablets.

The digital marketing battlefield will largely play out on mobile devices. A growing number of users expect to access products, services, apps and information from their smartphones and tables.

Your company needs to have an online presence in place, and online features that cater to a mobile audience, to stay competitive.

3. Simple, Valuable Messaging Will Continue To Win Out
Don’t overwhelm your customers with hype. Tone down your campaign and get to the core message. Explain what makes you stand out.

Consider the best way to communicate your message. Visual content drives engagement. Posts with videos attract three times more inbound link clicks that plain text posts.

Photos and videos on Facebook have a 65% increase in engagement than plain text posts.

Your digital marketing strategy is about consistently creating valuable and relevant branded content for a specific audience that keeps them engaged through all stages of the buying cycle in order to build trust, foster deeper relationships, and generate more leads.
